I am a self-taught visual artist, born and raised in the multicultural city of Madrid, in Spain, in 1976. Throughout my life I have always felt a deep connection to artistic creation, and I have sought ways to express the human condition through drawing and painting. The aesthetic of my artwork is strongly influenced by the Asian beauty that I have discovered while travelling around Japan and China.
My work focuses on exploring human suffering in a hyper-connected, modern and digital world that, paradoxically, pushes us to live increasingly isolated and in perpetual search for connections. The need for love, loneliness and anxiety, which are typically generated by this chaotic society, shape the basis of my narrative and my inspirational emotions from my own vital experience. I am interested in inviting to reflection on the voracity of our current society and how it has commodified human relations in many contexts, and the contradictions to which it subjects us.
I work in portraits of evocative female images which dialogue with the viewer. My characters have neutral expressions but an intense and penetrating gaze as a way to connect with the observer. The intention is to reveal an internal storm and the subject's inner psychology through our own gaze. I believe that my portraits allow the viewer to identify with the image of other human being and its emotions, transcending gender barriers, time or place.
To create my paintings, I combine digital media with analogue tools as a way to represent the dichotomy between the traditional and modern worlds. I use digital graphite to create grayscale portraits, which then I translate onto the painted surface using vivid acrylics. I also add three-dimensional elements, such as small pieces of imitation jewellery. Through this process the avatar becomes real into the natural world, transcending from the digital plane, being reborn, liberated and full of life.
Although I happily embrace new technologies, I still believe in the slow, meditative creative process that connects with the spirit of the artist as a means to connect with the soul of others.
